3D Secure (3DS) is an extra identity check your bank uses to confirm it's really you using your card. Depending on your card issuer, this might happen quietly in the background with no action needed, or your bank might ask you to confirm it's you (for example, with a text code or an approval in your banking app).
Will I need to verify my card when I add it to PayRewards?
Yes — PayRewards verifies new cards using 3D Secure, a quick check run with your bank the moment you add the card. Once it passes, your card is verified and ready to use right away. If your card isn't enrolled in 3D Secure with its issuing bank, it can't be added as a payment method — check with your card issuer to confirm 3D Secure is enabled, or try a different card.
Why did PayRewards ask me to verify a payment I was making?
In certain situations, PayRewards may also run a 3D Secure check at the time of payment as an extra security measure. Your card issuer decides whether that means a quick background check or a prompt asking you to confirm it's you — it doesn't mean anything is wrong with your payment.
Why did my verification fail?
A few things can cause this — your card may not be enrolled in 3D Secure with its issuing bank, the challenge step (like a text code or banking app approval) wasn't completed or timed out, or your bank declined the request on their end. If verification isn't going through, contact your card's issuing bank to confirm 3D Secure is set up and working on their end.
